Red Carpet Special: The Primetime Emmy Awards!

It’s a fabulous day fellow fashionistas! It’s time for the Primetime Emmy’s and that means its time for a red carpet explosion! In honour of the fashionable fun to come, the PTSC has prepared a little something special to celebrate. Megan West is bringing you 5 of her top Emmy Award red carpet bests, while Madison Blake is showcasing 5 red carpet predictions for tonight’s top starlets. We’ll be live-blogging the event later today so check back to our Facebook and Twitter for on-going fashion reports!

Emmy Awards Red Carpet Bests:

January Jones – 2010 Emmy Awards in Atelier Versace

Now this is what I call a high fashion moment on the red carpet!  Atelier Versace, a true red carpet force to be reckoned with, gives us another gown that commands your appreciation. So obsessed with the structure and detailing, but combine this with the fact that the soft mint colour compliments Ms. Jones’ skin tone and hair perfectly and we’ve got a look that is literally on another level. A red carpet risk and a definite red carpet win.

Christina Applegate – 2003 Emmy Awards in Valentino

There are few things I love more than a perfect reincarnation of a 1920’s flapper on a modern-day red carpet. Valentino and Christina Applegate achieved just that. Not only that, but she kind of looks like a 1920’s red carpet angel. The hardware on the straps and belt add a modernized touch to the gown, while the draping and layers of chiffon give it a classic flapper vibe. Oh, and layers of Neil Lane chain necklaces? Beyond.

Nina Dobrev – 2010 Emmy Awards in Zuhair Murad

Glamazon alert! This is a definite red carpet showstopper. The subtle bands of glitter bomb infusion and dramatic high-cut give it an extra ounce of sexy, while the asymmetrical top, silvery-champagne colour and slight train gives it a bit of a Grecian goddess feel. Nina pulls off the look impeccably with her bronzed skin, smoky eyes and knock-out jewels.

Debra Messing – 2009 Emmy Awards in Michael Kors

This look is all about the subtleties! I have a lot of love for a look that offers an end result of sexiness, without being over the top about getting there. The perfect fit, draping and train, smokey eye makeup, pulled-back hair and Debra’s bronzed skin give us that subtle sexiness, while creating a definite Movie Star Moment (even if her claim to fame is by way of sitcom). Oh, and the accessories? Understated per-fec-tion. And in the end … what gets better than a Swarovski-encrusted Michael Kors?

Kristin Chenoweth – 2009 Emmy Awards in Zuhair Murad

I mean … It’s like a disco-ball exploded into a mini dress and landed on the cutest person of all time (seriously, who doesn’t love her?) just in time for a red carpet moment! I recall being so mesmerized by this look that I literally could not avert my eyes. I’m not sure this even needs further explanation … sparkle explosion, sultry makeup, and glowing skin create a knockout. The Emmy’s proved to be the perfect outlet for a super fun cocktail dress on a super fun actress.

xx Megan West

Emmy Awards Red Carpet Predictions:

Cat Deeley

Image from

This is Cat’s first time as an Emmy nominee for her hosting duties on So You Think You Can Dance.  The British babe hasn’t met a short frock she didn’t like (and with legs like that, can you blame her?), and that’s why I chose this Marchesa number for her.  The colour and lace are on-trend, and it’s just plain FUN!  Even though this is a more formal event, I have a feeling Cat’s legs will still come out to play.

Sofia Vergara

Um, can you say sex appeal?  What other woman in TV has the curves to really fill out this Jad Ghandour creation? Sofia never shies away from flaunting what her momma gave her, so I predict she’ll rock a dress like this which shows off her body while keeping things classy in a sexy champagne silk.

Lea Michele

Glee’s leading lady would definitely look ravishing in red, and I predict something a little simpler, stylistically speaking, for her Emmy’s look.  Chiffon has been her friend in the past, and this stunning Monique Lhuillier would be so gorgeous floating down the red carpet.

Leighton Meester

This Gossip Girl has a history of being a little more risqué in her red carpet picks than her contemporaries, and I think that trend will continue with the Emmy’s this weekend.  That’s why I chose this stunningly original Alexander McQueen for Leighton; while the colour is somber, the neckline and rear-view of the dress are stunning, and the gold, feather, and pleated details bring this dress to a whole other level.  I’m kind of obsessed.

January Jones

Clearly I had to include one glitter bomb in my Emmy predictions, and January Jones would be the lady to rock the glitter best in this Temperly London stunner.  The details on this dress are beyond…aside from the sequin and bead explosion, there is also white fish-scale embroidery that is breathtaking, the colour is blush at its best…okay, I’m getting carried away.  The point is, Jones looks gorgeous in glitter, this neckline on her would rock, and the cap sleeves are adorable.

I’d definitely choose any one of these looks if I was walking the Emmy’s red carpet this evening!  Now we just have to wait and see what TV’s lovely ladies step out in for the event!  Much love, Madison Blake
