London Fashion Week Recall: Fall 2012
London Fashion Week has come and gone, which means it’s time for another runway roundup! Now I know you’re used to both Megan West and myself presenting our favourite collection from each fashion week, but this time we’re trying something different. I know, I know…you can’t live without knowing who MW loved the most (let’s be real though, you know she’d pick Tom Ford…if there were any images of his collection to see, that is). Sadly, you’ll just have to make do with my pick this time! And the winner is…
Erdem Moralioglu does a mean print, and these fancy florals more than match his previous printing successes. Although used differently in each piece here, they are always purposeful: the mirroring of the flowers in the dress on the left creates visual interest around the waist, allowing for some serious curve-creation; the all-over print in the trouser look on the right gives a long and lean look; and the center dress gets some fun and whimsy from a cartoon-like rose pattern.
Tweed helps to define the collection as an Autumn/Winter one and is used in a myriad of silhouettes, from ultra-ladylike nipped waists to skirt suits to cocoon dresses. So many designers get caught up in blacks and greys for fall, and seeing such variety in colour (even with just one fabric) is one of my favourite things about this collection.
But my favourite part of Erdem’s show are these latex-and-lace pieces. When you mix sex-shop rubber, feminine lacy details, and demure silhouettes, it’s the ultimate naughty-and-nice. I wonder if Kate Middleton’s history of sporting Erdem will continue with these new racy pieces…somehow I can’t quite see the Royals being so keen on that…but I think she could pull it off!
I pretty much want to wear everything in this collection (latex included) and I think you will too if you peruse the whole show on style.com. Make sure you check out the detailed views as well…there are some crazy hot tweed pumps, and the lace inserts are truly works of art!
Much love, Madison Blake
