Red Carpet Special: Diane Kruger, Part 1
The fashion world has had its eye on Diane Kruger for some time now; from her breakout role in Troy to her turn as a WWII movie siren/spy in Inglorious Basterds to her recent portrayal of Marie Antoinette in Farewell, My Queen (Les adieux à la reine), Kruger has worn some eye-catching and exquisite ensembles on the big screen and on the red carpet. Therefore, I can think of no one better to showcase in this edition of the Red Carpet Special!
2010 Screen Actors Guild Awards in Jason Wu
This mustard asymmetrical gown takes my breath away! It’s so simple yet elegant, just like Kruger. I like that she went with such an atypical colour for the red carpet. The ruby earrings and red lips make her eyes pop, and with minimal accessories and easy swept-back hair, the dress (and Kruger) gets all the attention.
2010 Cannes Film Festival Opening Ceremony in Jason Wu
I am blowing my top off for this colour-blocked extravaganza!!! I would love a fuchsia gown, no surprise there, but I’m also a fan of the unique black bustier top. Kruger makes riskier choices when it comes to red carpet dressing, but rather than looking like a fashion disaster, she often comes out on top of the best dressed list. This full-skirted gown is superbly flattering with the gathered waist and slight sweetheart. Kruger avoids fussy accessories and hair and lets the fashion do the talking. Love it!
Photocall for Unknown in Berlin (2011) in Prada
I love the streamlined, ladylike look of this red Prada dress for a more casual occasion like a photocall. Kruger looks polished and gorgeous but holds onto her quirkier fashionista ways by throwing on a pair of contrasting teal strappy platforms. Statement earrings glam things up a bit…after all, she’s still a movie star.
Cannes Film Festival 2011 Sleeping Beauty premiere in Calvin Klein
It’s like she was dipped in gold!!! Any woman wearing the simple Calvin Klein silhouette has to have confidence, and that is what Kruger oozes in this golden gown with spaghetti straps and train. She doesn’t rely on accessories or embellishments to hold your attention; she has everyone’s eyes on her in this stunner. Sleek, sexy, and self-possessed, Kruger is a bona fide screen siren!
2011 Met Gala in Jason Wu
If I wasn’t a Jason Wu fan before, after researching Kruger’s top red carpet looks I most definitely am now. This nude embellished top and thigh-baring skirt combo is possibly my favourite of the Wu looks she has worn. It’s special enough for the Costume Institute gala, but not so over-the-top that it strays from Kruger’s fashion persona. She always stays true to herself in her red carpet picks, and never lets the clothes wear her.
That’s my top five red carpet looks from the lovely Diane Kruger! Check back tomorrow for part two, featuring Megan West’s picks!
Much love, Madison Blake
