Spring Beauty Trends: (Almost) All-Natural
And the spring beauty bonanza continues! In case you missed it, here’s part 1 of our PTSC x Sandrogynous Makeup spring beauty trends collaboration, featuring Coveted Cosmetics and Liliesshop.net. To review:
SANDROGYNOUS MAKEUP
Sandra Chung is a professional makeup artist based in Vancouverwho specializes in fashion, beauty and bridal makeup. She has worked with reputable brands such as MAC cosmetics and Joico Canada and is currently the head makeup artist for Coveted Cosmetics. Today, you can laugh at my expense as I try to flex my modelling skillz! We’re featuring what I have dubbed the “(Almost) All-Natural,” a look that requires a shocking amount of makeup to look like you are wearing hardly any. But I digress…it was seen on the S/S 2012 runways of Michael Kors, Preen, Alexander McQueen, Diane von Furstenberg, and the like, and showcased a golden, glowing monochromatic palette. To compliment this warm and lovely look, we’ve chosen a nonchalant braid that is so popular with the personal styler blogger-types these days (who, me?). Here’s me before my Sandrogynous makeover:
(I can’t believe I’m allowing this photo of me to be on the internetz. Of course I was having a particularly bad case of the teenage mid-20′s acne that day…figures).
To really get glowing, in a born-this-way sort of way, follow along with these steps:
1) Get your complexion perfectly flawless with these detailed steps from yesterday’s post. And don’t forget to use the Lioele Beyond Solution bb cream, available from liliesshop.net!
2) Amp up the bronzer on the jawline, upper cheekbones, and temples (try MAC Refine Golden bronzer).
3) Apply blush on apples of cheeks, mixing a peach and a pink colour (try MAC Melba and Benefit Dandelion)
4) Highlight around the eyes using MAC Vanilla eyeshadow; apply MAC Mythology eyeshadow (a copper shade) to the center of eyelids, blending outwards.
5) In creases and outer corner of lids, apply MAC Woodwinked (warm gold); for more dimension, add MAC eyeshadow in Espresso (dark matte brown) to outer corners of eyelids.
6) For eyeliner, apply MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack with a small liner brush to the top & bottom waterlines, then add a smudge of brown shadow under the lower lash line (try Stila eye shadow in Java).
7) Apply a couple coats of mascara, followed by Coveted Cosmetics “Bedroom Eyes” false lashes (these babies are hand-woven, and made with real hair!).
8) For lips, apply a nude lipliner like smashbox The Nude Lip Liner in Light, followed by MAC lipstick in Angel and MAC Cremesheen Glass in Right Image.
(I am eternally grateful to Sandra’s mad makeup abilities and KatelynD‘s flattering photography…those two make me look good!)
To have your very own disheveled braid, brush hair back and gather it slightly off-center at the nape of your neck. Since I’m a little lacking in the hair department, we incorporated my clip-in hair-piece (a $20 Winners purchase) to add more volume to the braid. Alternatively (if you don’t own your own chunk of plastic woven into a hair-like device), you could tease your ends before braiding. Don’t be too deliberate with your work; the hottest braids this season are messy and deconstructed like the models on the Michael Kors runway. Tie it off with a clear elastic to keep it streamlined.
And now what you’ve all been waiting for! The Great Spring Beauty Giveaway of 2012!
