Fall 2012 Couture Recall: Givenchy
I think we’ve done this dance before…another Paris couture week upon us, and I’m smitten with Riccardo Tisci’s incredible creativity and craftsmanship. Layers and layers of hand-beaded fringe, floor-length capes, embroidered leather, and sheared mink bodices made for a drool-worthy collection from Givenchy.
There is a sense, again, of Tisci’s unique hard-meets-soft style, and again I have cinematic references brought to mind by this collection (for the spring 2012 collection, visions of Rooney Mara danced in my head): this time, I’m seeing these couture pieces hanging in the closet of Charlize Theron’s Ravena from S.W.A.T.H.
These couture pieces are beautiful in all 360 degrees, inside and out. For the black gown below with a halter neck ending in a floor-length cape, hours were spent applying sequins by hand to the inside of the cape. That’s the kind of detail that puts this collection over the top!
The show-stopping column gowns in shades of nude find their beauty in clean lines and un-fussy details; Tisci exercises great restraint compared to the other embellished pieces, and it certainly pays off for him here. I would love to see a glamorous Hollywood star in the cream version at a red carpet event or a premiere!
That’s all ten couture looks from the house of Givenchy! Do you love it, or do you love it? Check back tomorrow for Megan West’s couture pick…can you guess which collection she’s going to feature??
Much love, Madison Blake
