The Beauty Blow-Up: Waterproof Wonders

Summer brings unique challenges to putting one’s best face forward. Pool parties, seaside soirees, and all-day/all-night summer music festivals (come rain or shine), can render your average beauty routine ineffective. While it’s sometimes enough to simply scale back on the makeup front…you know, go for that foundationless/bare-faced/”natural” look…sometimes it’s necessary to bring on the glam even when the thermometer readings are high. Good thing I’ve researched a whole arsenal of products to keep you looking great in the high temps!

Before applying any makeup, start with some sun protection. Once you’re fully SPF’d, try out some of these well-reviewed waterproof products. These days, mascara isn’t the only water-resistant beauty product out there; you can get everything from foundation to bronzer that will last all day at the pool or the beach. Look for gels and stains that have especially good staying power without feeling heavy.

For your eyes, creams and gels are great formulations for your shadow and liner. I’m especially fond of the smashbox gel liner. The waterproof options I’ve showcased below come in a wide range of fun colours, so your summer beauty looks won’t be limited to neutrals! For mascara, I’m always hesitant to fork over a lot of money for a waterproof formulation that won’t be in daily use; my go-to drugstore mascara is this Cover Girl LashBlast that gives great volume and doesn’t flake or smudge.
